Your journey would begin with silk worm and take you through the wonderful process of silk production units in the village.

You will then proceed for lunch at Kamat’s Loka Ruchi restaurant to experience a traditional North Karnataka food... served on a plantain leaf!

The Toy Tumble

The Toy Tumble is a day trip to the workshops of traditional craftspersons who for centuries have specialised in the production of traditional lacquer ware toys from ancient designs.

Channapatna, a small hamlet about 60 kms from Bangalore, excels in lacquer ware: a craft practiced today by over 3000 local craftspeople. Lacquer ware products include brightly coloured wooden toys, door curtains, powder boxes and napkin rings.

You will begin your journey by first visiting an ancient temple that has been dedicated to Lord Vishnu, Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Krishna, located in Mallur a village near Channapatna. A special feature of this temple is the depiction of Lord Krishna as a toddling infant. This sculpture is one of a kind, found nowhere else in India or in the world.

Following this, you will proceed to Channapatna – the Toy Town where you will visit small scale units where different varieties of toys are manufactured by the local craftsmen. Each craftsman works from home and contributes a single product to the market. Later you will visit some small scale government owned industry and shops.

You will then enjoy local cuisine at Kamat’s Loka Ruchi Restaurant where you will be served authentic North Karnataka food on a plantain leaf!

Following lunch you will go next door and visit Janapada Loka (closed on Tuesdays) which is a treasure trove of Karnataka’s folk heritage. The 15-acre complex houses museums, an open-air theatre, a studio and other structures. The museum drawn from the life and arts of a large number of tribal and rural folk across Karnataka has an amazing collection of 5000 artefacts that represent the essence of Karnataka’s folk culture.
